What is a root canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure that is meant to relieve pain and save your tooth. Dr. Bennett eliminates the bacteria and any dead or dying tissue from inside your tooth if it becomes severely infected. In doing so, they are able to save your tooth and soothe your pain.
What can cause a tooth infection?
An untreated cavity or oral injury can cause infection in the tissue and roots of your teeth. If you don’t visit the dentist, the infected tissue may spread into the root or pulp of the tooth. How can I recognize an infected tooth?
An infected tooth can become very painful relatively quickly, especially if you don’t take care of it promptly. You may experience these symptoms when you have an infected tooth:

- Smelly, bad breath

What is the procedure for a root canal?
Dr. Bennett can usually fix your tooth within one or two visits. You may first require an X-ray to determine the extent of damage to the tooth needing the root canal.
At your appointment, Dr. Bennett utilizes a syringe to administer local anesthetic and numb the region. Occasionally, they put a small sheet of rubber, or dental dam, around the tooth to protect it and keep it clean during the procedure. Once your tooth is numb, Dr. Bennett makes a small incision in your tooth to find and treat the area of infection in the root.
Then, Dr. Bennett will clear away the unhealthy and infected pulp, then irrigate the area with water to clean it. Ance all damaged substance is extracted, he will either place a temporary filling on your tooth or seal it for protection until you come back for your permanent crown.
